Chalfont House in 1870

Chalfont House, Buckinghamshire c1870

This photograph taken by Jabez Croft of Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire about 1870 is probably the earliest photograph of this building. Chalfont House, near Chalfont St. Peter in Buckinghamshire was constructed on the site of the early 15th century Bulstrodes or Brudenells Manor, to the designs of John Chute in 1755. It was later remodelled by John Nash in 1799-1800, with further work carried out by Anthony Salvin in 1836. This listed neo-gothic building is now known as Chalfont Park House.
